Leadership
Leadership strategic initiative
The president appointed two task forces in 2017 as part of the Board’s strategic objective to review and revise governance procedures and structures.
CEO Evaluation Task Force
The CEO Evaluation Task Force was appointed to review the CEO evaluation policy and process and make recommendations for improvement. The Board accepted the task force’s changes to Policy 6.2, Evaluation of the Chief Executive Officer and implemented a new evaluation instrument. Task force members included chair Carole Bryant of Saskatchewan, and Directors at Large Ken Middlebrooks of Minnesota and Meenakshi Budhraja of Arkansas.
Succession Planning Task Force
The purpose of the ASWB Succession Planning Task Force was to develop a comprehensive leadership succession planning policy for ASWB to complement the existing emergency succession planning policy. The task force presented revisions to Policy 7.3, Leadership Coverage and Emergency Communications Plan in the Absence of the Chief Executive Officer and introduced a new policy covering a planned departure. The Board accepted the task force’s changes to Policy 7.3 and made suggested edits to the new policy, tabling approval until January 2018. Task force members included Directors at Large Ken Middlebrooks of Minnesota (chair), Robert Payne of Idaho, and Richard Silver of Québec.
A third task force was reappointed to continue its evaluation of the structure of the American Foundation for Research and Consumer Education in Social Work Regulation, Inc., the association’s research arm. The ASWB Board of Directors also governs the Foundation.
Foundation Restructure Task Force
The ASWB Foundation Task Force worked in conjunction with the Foundation Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan and recommendations for the Foundation’s future. The Foundation Board voted to approve the task force’s recommendations to move administration of current research projects to ASWB while maintaining funding through the Foundation.
