Expanded contract services

Colorado became the sixth jurisdiction contracting with ASWB for services and the second to use ASWB for exam preapprovals. Between November 1 and year end, 53 applications were processed.

Enhanced technological capacity

ASWB adopted Abila’s NetForum Pro, an association management system.  Members can create an account at engage.aswb.org and use the system to register for meetings and update contact information.

Revved up research services

In 2017, research services were enhanced by subscription to the online database LexisAdvance. Staff received training and used the platform for multiple projects, including identifying regulations for electronic practice across all behavioral health professions.

Serving members through regulatory research

Research projects included developing a position paper on independent vs. composite regulatory board structures for Kansas, sharing research with Maryland on jurisdictions that require a jurisprudence exam, and assisting NASW-Delaware in successfully advocating for legislation pertaining to independent practice that mirrors language recommended by the Model Social Work Practice Act.

Helping out the helping profession

Following Hurricane Maria, Massachusetts and Florida administrators reached out to ASWB to help them deal with the influx into their jurisdictions of displaced social workers from Puerto Rico who were lacking documentation of their social work licenses. ASWB obtained regulatory information that supported the administrators to help them determine acceptable, workable processes to accommodate their new citizens.
