About ASWB

ASWB Mission—2018
Strengthen protection of the public by providing support and services to the social work regulatory community to advance safe, competent, and ethical practices
2014–2018 Strategy Map
By the final year of ASWB’s five-year strategic plan, so much progress had been made that three of the four strategic initiatives were operationalized—making way for new strategic goals to be formulated for the next three-year strategic framework. With the adoption of licensure by endorsement as the key to practice mobility implementation, the mobility initiative continued as a strategic emphasis. Building leadership capacity was operationalized through the Volunteer Engagement and Outreach department. The IT department operationalized the strategic objective relating to enhancing the technology infrastructure. Collaboration on the Curricular Guide for Licensing and Regulation broadened stakeholder awareness of ASWB and the importance of regulation to public protection and the profession of social work.
This report reflects the work done by staff and volunteers guided by the 2014–2018 Strategic Plan.
ASWB Board of Directors
The ASWB Board of Directors is elected by the Delegate Assembly and oversees the ongoing business of the association. The association has an 11-member board—president, president-elect/past-president (alternating years), secretary, treasurer, and seven directors at large. Two members of the Board must be public members of a member board, and one at-large seat is reserved for a current administrator of a member board. The association president must be a licensed social worker.
ASWB Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is the other elected body serving the association. The five-member committee is responsible for leadership development and for slating qualified, imaginative volunteers for election to the Board of Directors and Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee reports through the Board of Directors to the Delegate Assembly. Bylaws amendments adopted at the 2018 annual meeting removed the appointment of a member of the ASWB Board of Directors to the Nominating Committee beginning in 2019.
