Path to Licensure

ASWB’s Path to Licensure program is designed to bring the worlds of education and regulation together in the classroom to strengthen student and faculty knowledge of professional regulation and its important connection to public protection and social work values and ethics.
Path to Licensure highlights:
- Six scholars chosen from colleges and universities across the United States attended the 2019 Path to Licensure Institute intensive, which was led by two faculty members who have a longtime affiliation with ASWB through their service as regulators. Scholars make a three-year commitment to take a leadership role to enhance learning about licensure and regulation at their schools and produce regulatory research.
- An innovative collaboration between an ASWB member board and a group of educators took place in September in Columbus, Ohio, when that state’s Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board hosted more than 50 educators and guests for a day of information-sharing. Janice Fitts, ASWB’s education and research senior manager, presented on the Path to Licensure program.
